Background:
From a young age Ben and his twin sister Fiona were raised around Pokemon. Their parents were both accomplished trainers. Their mother Elena was a Psychic-type trainer, while their father Derek was a Ghost-type trainer, however both retired once Elena became pregnant with the twins. Derek had sacrificed the chance to become a Ghost-type Gym Leader. At the age of nine years old Elena's Gardevior and Derek's Banette produced a pair of eggs. They were a female and male Ralts. The male Ralts was given to Ben and the female was given to Fiona as their first Pokemon, though they would be able not set out to become official trainers for two years. Derek had told his family for a long time about the phenomena known as Mega Evolution, one he was familiar with, but never able to accomplish. While both parents wedding rings were Mega Rings capable of mega evolution, it would not work. Derek even had a Banettite that seemed to be ineffective. While he believed it to be fake he kept it as a memento of the day he met his wife. It was keeping this stone that caused the worst to happen.
On a day of school when Fiona was home sick, Team Rocket attacked their home. In the ambush, an explosion caused by multiple Weezings collapsed the house. Team Rocket made off with the Banettite. Derek, Elena, Fiona, and their Pokemon were killed. When Ben found the home, he rushed through the rubble to find a hope that someone was alive. When all hope was lost, he found a Pokeball undamaged in the rubble. Inside was Fiona's Ralts. After the funeral, Ben was given both mega rings. Since Mega Evolution was somewhat clouded in mystery, Team Rocket had not known the connection of the Mega Stones to the Rings, but Ben knew that eventually they would come after him. Immediately he set out with only his two Ralts and two Mega Rings.
His first Pokemon caught in the wild was a Pidgey, that attachment lead to it's permanent spot on his team. After reaching the first town of his journey, the Pokemon Professor of his region, Professor Palm, gave him a choice of an official starter Pokemon. He chose Mudkip.
Ben went on to beat the first gym leader of his journey and went on to capture an Aron immediately after. Its versatility in its utility earned it a spot on his team as well. In the middle of his journey in the first region Ben competed in. He captured a Shuppet. Reminding him of his father's prized Pokemon that earned the final spot of Ben's team. Not long after that, Ben had encountered a sage who knew quite a bit about Mega Evolution. The sage gave Ben an Aggronite and Swampertite. He taught Ben how to successfully Mega Evolve his Pokemon, but explained that only one could be used at a time.
Ben had collected all eight badges in his region, securing his place to compete in the Pokemon League, but this was not without drawing attention to himself. What increased this attention was his two Mega Rings. He was one of few trainers to use a Mega Ring to mega evolve his Pokemon in public. Trainers who did this were often attacked by Team Rocket. Ben had his share of run ins with small groups of Team Rocket grunts, who were quickly dispatched by Mega Aggron or Swampert. Most ran away, but rookie had made a mistake. While mistakenly cowering in fear of his life he offered all he had. That had included a Pidgeotite stolen from a trainer and the location of the Rocket lair in his region. Without hesitation Ben went to the headquarters. Through the power of his Mega Rings he could sense the Banettite was there. He battled his way in to retrieve his father's stolen Banettite. When he finally managed to retrieve it, he surrounded by Rocket Grunts and Leaders. Mega Aggron and his Banette were the only Pokemon he had left capable of fighting, both at his side defending. Then the unthinkable happened. His Banette mega evolved while his Aggron was still mega evolved. With the power of two Mega Pokemon, Ben was able to fight off the remaining Team Rockets.
Ben went on to compete and win his first regional Pokemon League championship. It was at that moment he remembered his mother's words during a family discussion about Mega Evolution. "Most Pokemon can mega evolve. Mega Stones are so rare that its hard to find which ones are. From what I understand, even both of your Ralts will have the capability to Mega Evolve."
With Gardevior, Gallade, Banette, Aggron, and Pidgeot at his side he continued down the path of finding Mega Stones, especially the ones for his Gallade and his sister's Gardevior.
Through his teenage years and young adult life, Ben searched far and wide for Mega Stones while becoming a legend know as the Dual Mega Trainer. After winning a third regional Pokemon League champion Ben was visited by a being of pure light. "I seek to provide you with what you seek most." It went to explain about the other universe and the artifacts becoming whatever he desired.
Ben called Professor Palm. He knew it would be a long time until he could see his other Pokemon again. "Professor. Its me Ben. I am going away for a while, so take good care of my Pokemon." Before the professor could respond, Ben hung up. He accepted the invitation and was brought to Seventh City in search of Mega Stones.
